About Knit babyI have always loved babies and knitting. I was so excited about knitting a garment for my first child. There was something very special about purchasing the wool, pattern and needles to create that special garment for my son. Many memories and loving thoughts are still associated with that jumper and the other garments and blankets I have knitted for my children. These handknitted items will be kept and cherished by me forever. It is these feelings and associations I hope to create for people when they purchase one of my blankets, garments or yarn. I understand that people are very busy and may not have the time, inclination or confidence to knit something themselves but would love to have a special blanket or garment for their child that can be cherished forever, along with the memories associated with it. Blankets in particular are treasured by babies and young children. My blankets are contemporary in style and their uniqueness is created when the customer chooses the name , motif and colour combination that best suits the child's personality and nursery's decor. Many of the positive thoughts associated with making my blankets come from the knowledge that I am creating a blanket that can be treasured forever and has been handcrafted by me using hand knitting, manual machine knitting and crochet techniques . I did not want to source an overseas manufacturer to mass produce, as I believe the emotion in producing the blanket or garment, along with my passion for this business and the tradition of handcrafting would be lost as a result. I have taken great care in sourcing the products required to make the blankets. One of my main considerations was that the wool or cotton used was machine washable, and more importantly, soft, next to a baby's delicate skin.I use 100% wool and 100% cotton in producing my blankets. The wool I use is Australian Merino that is spun in Italy by Filatura di Crosa.I endeavoured to source the wool from an Australian company but could not find one that was able to produce a wool of the same superior quality and softness. The cotton is sourced from an Australian Company. The businesses used in establishing Knit baby, including printing, wool and cotton distribution, photography, gift packaging and advertising are sourced from my local area or in Australia and I am proud of this fact. My wish for my customer is that they will feel the same joy in giving a personalised blanket or garment to someone they love and that it will be treasured forever. Regards Elizabeth Thompson |
